Michael was the Chief Engineer of a small rover for asteroid exploration in microgravity that incorporated high-voltage electrostatic dust rejection on its solar panels and used electroactive polymers for a lens cleaning wiper function. He has provided structural, mechanism, and control system engineering for parade floats, entertainment mechanisms around the world for the Disney Company, and provides engineering analysis for several elements of the movie industry, including the design of gyro-stabilized camera platforms and cranes.
Michael also worked on developing carbon nanotube power transistors with a startup company where he was responsible for the process control system designs and the development of plasma and radio frequency enhancements to the nanotube growth process.

Dr. Kathleen Araújo is the Director of the CAES Energy Policy Institute and Professor of Sustainable Energy Systems, Innovation, and Policy at Boise State University. She is responsible for the strategic oversight, research, and advising for the Institute — the policy body for the Center for Advanced Energy Studies, a consortium of public universities plus Idaho National Laboratory. Dr. Araújo specializes in strategic planning and decision-making associated with energy systems change. This includes targeted adaptations, such as with decarbonization, critical minerals security, and regional industrial restructuring, as well as unplanned shifts, including extreme weather and cyber disruption.
Dr. Araújo’s research contributes to the advancing field of energy transitions, where she writes on practical choices and theory-building.
Dr. Araújo has been evaluating regional revitalization strategies in traditional fossil fuel-based economies that are diversifying; critical minerals security; regulatory change in emerging energy markets; and policies for resilience of critical infrastructure with respect to extreme weather.
